Questions about chartering Cat Escape

  • Why charter Cat Escape?

1. You want a brand new boat that will take 6 people through the US and British Virgin Islands in comfort and style, and if needed, a separate cabin and head for a captain.

2. You want a spacious boat, with over 1,200 square feet for entertaining, that also provides privacy for you and your family, or guests.

3. You can relax in the owner's suite with a queen island bed, couch, and vanity table, without missing the views out your picture window.

4. You have three independent climate control zones to allow those who want to keep themselves cooler than others to do just that, while not freezing everyone else.

5. You can easily cruise for a week or more with plenty of space for provisions in the galley with an upright refrigerator/freezer, stovetop, separate oven and microwave.

6. With ample fuel capacity and great efficiency, you can do extended cruising economically, and safely.

7. You own, or you’ve chartered, a mono-hull boat, and you’d like to experience the stability and comfort of a power catamaran.

  • Am I qualified to charter Cat Escape?

Do you have experience with twin screw power boats and have navigation skills?

Are you 25 years of age or older?

Have you had any formal training from the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Power Squadron or other boating schools, like Chapman School of Seamanship?

Have you had practical experience at sea?

Do you have anchoring experience?

Have you captained a power boat of similar size to Cat Escape, for overnight cruising?

Do you own a boat?

Do the people joining you on your trip have any boating experience?

Have you cruised in the Virgin Islands before?

These are just some of the questions to ask yourself, or that we may ask you!  If you have said NO to a few questions, you may still qualify to charter.

If you have said NO to more than a few, we may suggest a check-out skipper for a couple of days.

If you have said NO to many, and still want the adventure of a cruising vacation, we can hire a U.S. Coast Guard licensed skipper to head your cruise and offer casual cruising instruction, suggestions for what to do, and offer a wealth of local knowledge!

  • Why charter a power catamaran?

In a word, comfort! The secret is in the twin hulls that track better than a V-hull and the tunnel between them that compresses air and water that gives you the soft ride. The narrower hulls partially pierce the waves so the pitching motion is less. The wide stance with individually narrower hulls also greatly reduces the rolling motion.

Since the cat does not stop (or slow down) for every wave like conventional monohulls, it travels faster using less power and thus has better range and/or speed for a given engine size.

More on stability… (And motion comfort)

A typical trawler cat sits flat and does not roll. It enjoys the inherent stability that comes from two widely spaced hulls that allow the wave pressure that normally causes a single hull to roll from side to side to pass under one hull at a time creating no more than a quick up and down motion as it sidesteps over the wave. This is the single most expressed delight of those who tend towards motion sickness. This rather quick and unpronounced motion does not produce the same sea-sickening effect that a long, slow rolling motion does.
